Cities' Commitment to the Environment:
Following are the commitments conferred by 12 network members during the 4th Kitakyushu Initiative Network Meeting in June 2007. These commitments will be closely monitored by the KI-Secretariat until 2010.
China- Weiha: Commits to reduce SO2 emission by 5% and COD concentration by 15%.
Indonesia- Surabaya: Commits to reduce solid waste generation by 40%.
Japan- Kitakyushu: Commits to reduce household waste generation by 20%, CO2 emission by 10%, increase recycling ratio by 20% and provide 860 low-emission public vehicles.
Korea- Ulsan: Commits to reduce municipal waste generation per capita by 0.9kg/day and increase recycling waste by 65%.
Malaysia- Sibu: Commits to reduce waste generation by 10-15%.
Nepal- Kathmandu: Commits to include PPP in waste collection and transportation.
Bago- Philippines: Commits to reduce waste generation by 60%.
Cebu-Philippines: Commits to reduce waste generation by 50% and comply with the national standard for water quality.
Puerto Princesa- Philippines: Commits to achieve waste diversion rate to 68%.
San Fernando- Philippines: Commits to increase waste diversion rate to 28%.
Bangkok- Thailand: Commits to reduce waste generation by 30%.
Nonthaburi- Thailand: Commits to reduce waste generation by 30% and promote hazardous waste segregation.
